KANSAS
CITY
,
Mo.
-- In real estate, it's all about location. When it comes to
art, placement can be vital, too.
In this tough housing market, a
Kansas City
real estate agent is hoping some creativity will help sell a
million-dollar house near
Ward Parkway
.
A line of people were waiting to check out the five-bedroom tudor home on
64th Terrace when the open house began. Some came to see what $1.3 million
will get you. Others came to see what $15,000 or $900 buys you - depending
on the painting.
Artist Dave McQuitty has 20 contemporary oil paintings displayed through
the house, each looking for a home of their own.
"You're looking at a real estate market. You're looking at high-end
houses that make perfect art galleries," Mark Valentine, McQuitty's
agent, said.
And every real estate agent knows an empty home doesn't show as well.
"The owners moved to
St. Louis
and moved out their furniture, and it was just crying for art," Ann
Hyge, real estate agent, said. "We're trying to find the right
qualified buyer for this house, and I think someone who loves art, loves
music would enjoy this house and enjoy entertaining. It's a great house
for entertaining. We hope that person walks in the door."
So Hyge brought in McQuitty's paintings and a jazz guitarist to show off
the pricey pad.
"It's a good cross promotion. I think art buyers like to look at
houses and house buyers like to look at art," Valentine said.
